Koralevas life began on the island of iao'cen by a man named Nas'etl and his wife Thenden. From the very beginning she was a fighter. Thenden had been trying to have a child for many years to no avail. She prayed to the gods every night to grant her with a child. Nas'etl wanted a son to help him with his work and to help take care of him and his wife when they were older. Thenden just wanted a baby..although..she was secretly hoping for a girl. She had even sewn some small gowns hoping they would bring her luck. Hoping the gods would see how much she wanted a baby. One night Thenden had a dream she was walking through a forest and she found a small baby wrapped tightly in an animal skin wrap. She picked up the small bundle and held the baby tightly.. When Thenden awoke the next morning she couldn't stop thinking about the dream. She told Nas'etl that she needed to do some laundry and hurried out of the small hut they lived in. She let her heart guide her into a wooded area. She knew Nas'etl would be unhappy with her if he knew she had wandered into the woods alone, but she couldn't stop. She began to run not knowing what she was looking for..but searching frantically. Suddenly Thenden heard a muffled cry coming from some bushes. She stopped in her tracks and eyed the plants. Unsure as to whether to explore or return later with her husband. Thenden reached to her side pulling a small dagger from her pocket. She cursed at herself for not bringing something bigger. Thenden slowly crept to the bush and pushed part of it to the side with her foot. Her heart lept as she saw the baby from her dream looking up at her from its bed in the leaves. She bent down and picked it up thanking the gods for this precious gift. Thenden used the small dagger to carefull cut away some of the animal skin to get a better look at the baby. As the blanket fell away she sighed realizing it was a healthy baby girl. She turned the baby over examining its tiny body. Thenden gasped when she saw a small tatoo on the baby's lower back. The tatoo was of a well known symbol. It was the mark of royalty. She quickly wrapped the baby back up and hurried back to the hut. She bust through the front door and ran to her husband who was busy with his daily work. Thenden held the baby out to her husband. Nas'etl looked at his wife with tears in his eyes. Thenden manged to tell him what had happened. Nas'etl examined the tatoo on the babies back and affirmed that yes it was the tatoo of royalty. Neither of them could understand who would leave a baby out in the woods alone..it surely must have been meant for them.
Later as the other villagers on the island noticed the new baby they began to ask many questions. They did not like that idea of having a child dropped into the village and not knowing where it came from. After much discussion the villagers decided that the baby must be killed. Thenden and Nas'etl were heartbroken. That night they held their new baby close and began to pack what they could. They had decided to run away from the island. Neither of them could bear to lose the daughter that had been given to them.
The sun began to rise and Thenden awoke to the sounds of her crying daughter whom she had decided to name Koraleva which meant queen. She looked around hoping the night before had only been a dream. Nas'etl smiled at her and pulled some milk from a small package at his feet offereing it to the baby. Thenden looked around seeing only water. She stretched her legs out in the small boat they had escaped in.
Thenden awoke to Nas'etl shaking her. She sat up thinking something must be wrong with Kora. Nas'etl whispered "i see land..we are almost there..when we get there i want you to take Koraleva and hide. I will scout the land a bit and return to you. Make sure to keep Kora quiet" Thenden just nodded and began to pack the articles that lay about her in the boat. She had prayed for this moment for what seemed like weeks.
The boat hit the land and Nas'etl jumped out pointing towards a large pile of rocks. Thenden asked no questions but picked up a Kora and hurried to the rocks hiding herself and the baby.
The sun began to rise and Thenden was tempted
to stand up to see what was arround her, but the thought of endangering
the life of her beautiful daughter kept her curiosity from overcoming
her. Kora had not cryed out as she normally did when she was hungry.
She lay patiently in her mothers loving arms. Thenden knew that
Kora was special. Thenden's legs began to cramp from sitting motionless
for so long. She heard footsteps and talking coming close and
froze with fear more for the bundle in her arms then for herself.
She slipped Koraleva into a small cave formed by the rocks and
covered the opening with more rocks. She heard Nas'etl's loud
deep voice call to her. She raised just enough to peak over the
rocks. She saw Nas'etl and 3 other men and a women carrying blankets
and food. Thenden crawled out from the side of the rock pile careful
not to look at the place she had hidden Kora. Nas'etl walked to
his wife and hugged her. He then introduced her to the others.
"Thenden i would like you to meet <name>, <name>
and <name> they live here. We have been invited to stay
in their village. It is called <place>. I told them about
the terrible storm and how we were forced to leave our island,
because of it." Nas'etl looked at her hoping she would understand
and follow along with his story. Thenden smiled and bowed to each
of the strangers. The women holding the blankets smiled and asked
where the baby was. Thenden smiled and walked to the rock pile
and pulled koraleva from the hiding place. Kora looked up at her
with big brown eyes holding so much insight. If only she could
talk thought Thenden. The women reached out for Koraleva but Thenden
could not let her go..not now..not after so much. The women smiled
realizing that Thenden had no intention of handing over her baby.
As the group entered the village Thenden was overwhelmed by the amount of people there..this was nothing like the island of her birth. She way excited about starting her life fresh. No one here knew that she had not birthed Koraleva. She looked at her baby happy that Kora was sylvan like she was..and even looked much like her.
Many years passed and Koraleva grew into a beautiful sylvan lady. Thenden watched with delight everytime Koraleva surprised everyone with her skills and knowledge. She was very adventerous for her size and age. Nas'etl would spend hours worrying about her when she would go "exploring". Even though it was not a normal custom Nas'etl decided to train Kora in fighting. He knew he couldn't keep her from exploring but at least he could help her to learn to defend herself. She took to the skills easily and Nas'etl was very proud. Thenden was worried that because of her willingness to hunt and fight her sweet baby would never find a husband. That night she prayed to the gods to find a suitable husband for her daughter..a man who would encourage her skills yet love her and treat her right.
A few nights later another dream came to Thenden. This time it was not about a baby however. She was once again walking alone in a wooded area and saw a strong man laying wounded on the ground. She could tell he was not dead. She reached to touch the man. He was not sylvan but fen'neko. She had heard of such people but had never actually seen one.
Thenden awoke seeing that the sun had not yet risen. The same curiosity that had led her to Koraleva so many years before was once again leading her out of the house. She knew what she would find. Thenden knew she couldn't possible carry the strong fen'neko back to the house alone so she awoke Nas'etl. Nas'etl listened to his wifes tale and got dressed in a hurry. He knew better then to argue with his wife on the issue. They brought necessary supplies and set out in search of the fen'neko man.
Thenden let her heart lead her once again and was quickly led to a clearing where she saw the man she knew would be there. He was very wounded and she feared for his life. This man had to be saved. Thenden knew that this man would be her son in law if he lived.
Koraleva awoke to the sound of whispering in the other room. She left her bed and wandered out to the living area. She gasped as she saw the most handsome man she had ever known laying on a soft bed in her house. Thenden looked up at her. She had stayed by the mans side since she had found him. She had bandaged his wounds as best she could and the man seemed to be doing better. Koraleva eyed the man..and her parents. Nas'etl explained the story of how the man came to be in the house. Koraleva smiled and thought of the story her parents had told her of her own mysterious beginning. She rubbed her fingers over the tatoo on her back. The only clue to her birth.
Over the next few weeks Koraleva did anything she could to ease the handsome mans pain. She would even sing to him. He looked so peaceful. One evening as she sat with him and watched to make sure he kept breating she bent down and kissed him lightly. Her heart beat rapidly and she felt embarassed and hoped know one had seen her. She loved this fen'neko man..even though..she had never talked to him. Koraleva thought she must surely be crazy. She looked at him and wondered if he would ever wake up. She smiled and just as she was about to lay down on the mat she had placed next to where he lie she saw his eyelids begin to move. Her heart lept and she began to sing to him. He slowly opened his eyes. Kora yelled for her mother.
After the fen'neko man woke up his healing was much quicker. She found out his name was Dea'mond and how he had come to be in the clearing.
Koraleva watched as Nas'etl taught Dea'mond the skills of Sylvan fighting. She would often go off into the woods to practice her own skills not yet wanting Dea'mond to know of her skills for fear of rejection. Dea'mond was a quick learner and was getting stronger by the day. Kora would spend many hours watching him. She loved him..with every bit of her being she knew they were meant to be together.
